South Africa Opening New Tourism Offices In Africa; Calls For More Travel Cooperation On Continent

South Africa plans to to open tourism offices in Brazil, Angola, Kenya and Nigeria and intensify marketing in South Korea, Russia, Scandinavia, China, Uganda, Ghana and Tanzania, its tourism minister said at the Indaba travel trade show.

The annual travel event, held this week in Durban, usually draws 13,000 people from the travel industry but organizers say they hope to attract more participation next year from the African continent.

“We can do more to tangibly strengthen the African tourism sector through mutually beneficial co-operation which brings out the best in all of us through healthy competition on our continent,” South African Tourism Minister Marthinus Van Schalkwyk said in an article in Bizcommunity.com.

It’s time Africans learned from each other’s successes instead of resenting one another, he added. “To achieve this we are willing to invest even more to transform the Indaba into a pan-African trade platform.”
