Rwanda’s Economic Gap Between the Rich, Poor Most Apparent

NTV Kenya recently analyzed the State of East Africa 2013 Report noting the disparity between the rich and poor in the region. Compared to 56 million (40 percent) of the poorest people in East Africa who make $0.65 per day; the 14 million rich people (10 percent of the EA population) make $5.83 per day. The income equality gap is largest in Rwanda.

“We find for example that Kenya is the second most unequal country in the region after Rwanda which for us was a bit of a surprise. Then it’s followed by Uganda, then Tanzania and Burundi is the least unequal country in the region — in terms of how income is divided amongst its population,” Aiden Eyakuze, principle author of the State of East Africa 2013 Report, said in the video.
