The Uganda National Bureau of Standards has acquired two computerized mobile fuel testing laboratories to clamp down on adulterated fuel.

The two laboratories come with an improved version of software, developed by Global Fluids International (GFI), specialists in verification and energy security technologies. The labs also come with a fully-integrated marking and detecting system, powered by a GPRS system, which means they will provide results in real time.

While unveiling the laboratories recently, the Executive Director of UNBS, Ben Manyindo, said the bureau would be able to double their former coverage and frequency.

“We had only two mobile laboratories [with manual testing equipment] and we could only monitor about 350 retail fuel outlets every three months [mostly found in urban centres] of the registered 1,177 outlets,” he said.
