Africa is home to some of the most conversational leaders on Twitter, according to the latest Twiplomacy report – a leading global study on world leaders using Twitter.

The tweets of Ugandan Prime Minister @AmamaMbabazi, Rwanda’s President@PaulKagame and Rwanda’s Foreign Minister @LMushikiwabo are almost exclusively @replies to their followers. Seventy-one percent of African leaders are on Twitter but they are currently not that well connected, either among themselves or with other world leaders, says the report.

The @PresidenceMali has the most mutual Twitter connections. Ousted Egyptian President @MuhammadMorsi was the most followed leader on the African continent with 1.6 million followers. South African President Jacob Zuma and Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta are Africa’s most followed leaders with more than 200,000 followers each. The young republic of South Sudan and the new leadership in Somalia have been using Twitter to make their voices heard on the international scene.
