Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere, not the world. I have been there several times, and I would not be afraid of any violent crime per se.

Karachi is my home town. It is nice to see that it is number one when it comes to live cheap. I wish it become a peace full city as it was few years ago, so I can go back there to retire.

    • brianjconway | July 24, 2013 at 6:32 am

I recently came back from there. They hate Americans.

      • Nick Thomas | July 30, 2013 at 3:22 pm

        I wonder why?

        • brianjconway | July 30, 2013 at 4:42 pm

Because they are flea bitten, ignorant, dirty heathens left behind by the modern era and are kept that way by their bullshit religion which encourages them to read only one book.

        • themirror | August 3, 2013 at 2:34 am

maybe because to them, people like you represent america?

        • brianjconway | November 4, 2013 at 4:48 am

Guess what? We win because we don’t care what they think.

        • sas | January 2, 2014 at 7:45 am

I live in Nanaimo, British Columbia. You can rent a two-bedroom apartment for $1,000 per month and petrol is about $1.40 per litre. The scenery is spectacular, you can speak English and you never have to learn the vernacular for “Don’t shoot me!”

    • Warren Reality | July 20, 2013 at 2:39 am

Seriously dude? You can rent a two bedroom apartment for the same price here in Victoria which makes your town look like a dump.

    • iduh steve | July 20, 2013 at 11:00 pm

did you say “a two-bedroom apartment for
$1,000 per month? that’s outrageous. its three times more costlier than what is obtainable in Abuja, the most expensive place to live in Nigeria.

      • brianjconway | July 24, 2013 at 6:33 am

Yeah but you are talking grass shack or mud hut.

        • Thorburn | July 31, 2013 at 4:54 pm

Its people like you that make me wonder about, if we as a species have truly evolved from apes.

        • brianjconway | November 4, 2013 at 4:49 am

GFY Half-wit. Go move in with them.

      • geofly | July 24, 2013 at 2:10 pm

Yes, but you’re not surrounded by Nigerians.

    • Gbenga | July 21, 2013 at 10:03 am

That’s 1/3 the price I pay annually for my 2 bedroom in Lagos, Nigeria and the fuel price is 1/3 of that! cheap indeed!

  4. bathroomnegro | July 20, 2013 at 1:39 am

third world shitholes all of them

    • Kristine Walker | July 20, 2013 at 11:17 am

…where some very poor people work for next to nothing to produce products that we can consume very cheaply here in the ‘first world.’ What a shameful attitude.

      • brianjconway | July 24, 2013 at 6:34 am

Send em a check. Put your money where your mouth is. Typical liberal.

        • cometboy | July 24, 2013 at 5:52 pm

So it’s ‘typical liberal’ for calling someone out when they refer to another person’s country as a shithole? I guess I’m guilty then.

BTW, given your other comments on this thread, I don’t think that its Americans in general they hate in these countries, it’s you.

        • brianjconway | July 30, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Might as well pick ujp one more fan. GFY

        • Kristine Walker | November 3, 2013 at 2:02 pm

          What a frighteningly ignorant attitude.

        • brianjconway | January 2, 2014 at 8:36 am

GFY. I win because I don’t care what you inadequate little whiners squall about.

    • Guest | July 30, 2013 at 3:27 pm

Why do you lot keep invading these 3rd World Shit-holes if you hate them so much?

  5. Retired Teacher | July 20, 2013 at 7:34 pm

How about Fresno, CA? The rent for a 1 bedroom apt is $700, and gas is 94 cents a liter ($3.76/gal.) It’s in the heart of the Great Central Valley, fruits & vegetables grow here year-round, & food is cheap- especially at the roadside stands. Summer is 103 F. and winter is 35 F. Rain is 7 inches annually, and solar power is on the rise. At least you don’t have to shovel snow!

    • boricua | July 21, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I live in Sacramento and Fresno has NOTHING there. It’s in the middle of nowhere.

      • Craig Bohmont | July 23, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I’ve been to Fresno, AND Sacramento. Both are simply survivable.

    • ionatrailer | July 25, 2013 at 4:06 pm

Yeah, but then you’re living in Fresno.

I’m pretty sure it’s Mussoorie, Uttararkhand India.

  8. Nena | July 21, 2013 at 6:33 pm

The title of this article is misleading and makes the rest of the list void. “10 cheapest cities for “luxury” living around the world” The luxury would be getting out of those places unmolested and alive. Karachi has 600 motorcycle assassins on the street. Addis Ababa is desperately poor as with many of the other cities on the list. Not for “luxury” living.

    • Guest | July 23, 2013 at 9:55 am

Addis Ababa is actually very nice. Not luxurious, but really nice. And if you want “luxury” go to Monaco. Addis is called “Africa’s Geneva” because of so many diplomatic missions and agencies that are in the city — mainly because of how safe it is. The weather, 25c macchiatos, and the great food, along with aforementioned low rent make Addis a great place to live! Go Addis! Oh – and Swiss Cafe is the best!

  9. worldtraveler | July 21, 2013 at 10:54 pm

ROFLMAO! Nobody in their right mind would want to move to Karachi, unless they’re either a terrorist or some Islamic fundamentalist nutjob!

    • Jackie | July 24, 2013 at 11:32 am

Ummwhy? Like i said. I LOVE KARACHI!!!!

      • Shanti | August 4, 2013 at 12:34 pm

Not for Hindus or other religious followers

  10. worldtraveler | July 21, 2013 at 10:57 pm

Islamabad? LMAO! Yeah, if you’re a terrorist!

    • surj | August 11, 2013 at 5:04 pm

worldtraveler. Just see 3w’sdot faithfreedom dotorg

  11. worldtraveler | July 21, 2013 at 11:01 pm

Whoever put together this list must have either drunk or “high” when they wrote this article…LOL…Either that or this is a satirical piece not meant to be taken seriously!

    • worldtraveler | July 21, 2013 at 11:02 pm

excuse me for the typo-should read “must have been either drunk or “high”

  12. Anne | July 22, 2013 at 10:51 am

I appreciate the information but I wouldn’t even want to visit these cities, let alone live there, and I like to travel.

  13. disqus_1isM0p2WwL | July 22, 2013 at 12:24 pm

Crazy list to me…you can live in China cheaply if you sort a long-term visa….

    • TellinglySo100 | July 23, 2013 at 9:56 am

Problems with pollution, however. Other than that, yes you’re right.

  14. peterknight | July 22, 2013 at 3:54 pm

S.E Asia is lot cheaper. In Udon Thani, Thailand average rent for a 2 bedroom house is $300-400. It is a small town with large expat population and seeing a boom.

    • Ionatrailer | July 25, 2013 at 4:08 pm

And the Thai’s are mostly Buddhist, so while you may get your stuff stolen, but they won’t cut your head off.

  15. Craig Bohmont | July 23, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Cheap, maybe, but they all had issues…shall we say, that make them challenging for survival, or acceptance. Well, enough money CAN *BUY* tolerance or pseudo acceptance, but then it wouldn’t be cheap. Would it?

  16. Polydeuces | July 24, 2013 at 1:51 pm

Surprised that Manila is not on this list. I heard cost of living is very low there

  17. geofly | July 24, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Most of these place are miserable shitholes that nobody in their right mind would want to move to or even visit.

  18. bobby62 | July 24, 2013 at 5:43 pm

Well these places are cheap for a reason … No one wants to live there! Karachi? really? We wouldn’t live there if you paid us….

  19. antiquestrad | July 24, 2013 at 5:44 pm

Anybody here stay in Tunis for any length of time? I passed thru it once on a tour, seemed like a nice city. I have known people who lived in some of those other places and currently they wouldn’t move there no matter how much you paid them.

  20. majdq8 . | July 25, 2013 at 3:41 am

Cheap for a good reason! Who would want to live in such a dump! The only place remotely decent is maybe Tunisia, all the other places would be crap to live in even if it was for free. Either too much crime or too much poverty, or just nothing happening there. The Far East has much better places to live in for cheap without at least the crime!

  21. Guillermo Calamity | July 25, 2013 at 11:08 am

The headline is extremely misleading; probably concocted so you’d click through and get sucked into one of their other ridiculous stories.

  22. ionarailer | July 25, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Who would want to live in any of these places???

  23. Jo | July 30, 2013 at 11:09 am

I wouldn’t live in any of those places if you paid me.

    • Richie | July 31, 2013 at 5:59 am

South Africa you can get a 4 bedroom house with double garage, swimming pool and much more for 500US a month. Fuel is +- 1.5 USD a liter, and prime beef steak about 7 USD a kilogram. Beer is 11 USD a case for top class beer

      • Mary Hinge | August 7, 2013 at 1:05 pm

Just don’t try and live in the inner cities !
In ZA, live has very little value, especially if you are seen to have something of value.

  24. ediba ngambo | March 26, 2014 at 10:36 am

    And Cape Town?
