A total of 11 Cameroonian startups have been selected to take part in the country’s local Seedstars World tech startup competition on September 29.
The winner of the early-stage startup contest in Douala will earn the right to pitch to investors at a final in Switzerland next year.
The global startup competition will be the first-ever Seedstars event in Cameroon, with the 11 startups who were announced this week pitching to a panel of judges for a chance to earn investment and prizes, according to ITNewsAfrica.
The event will take place at ActivSpaces in Douala, and will include tech startups that operate across a wide variety of sectors including agriculture, finance, health and communications.
Some of the health-related startups include artificial intelligence-based medical support platform GiftedMom and e-health startup Allodoc.
Fintech startup iDjangui and website-design platform Bridge Africa Ventures have also been chosen to pitch at Friday’s Seedstars competition.
The wide mix of companies selected include agri-tech startup Save Our Agriculture, fast food delivery platform Ratagrab, social media lead generation service VIKI and ticketing platform MyExpressTicket, according to VentureBurn.
Drone-mapping startup Drone Africa and entrepreneur visibility platform Guanxi Investment will also be pitching at the event, along with communications platform Cloomify.
Seedstars World, which describes itself as the world’s biggest startup competition in emerging markets, holds these events in over 65 countries before winners are selected to take part in a grand final.
The winner of the Cameroon leg of the competition will join other Seedstars country-winners at the final event in Switzerland during April next year, where they will deliver pitches that could potentially earn them up to $1 million in equity investments and prizes, according to Seedstars.
Winners of other Seedstars competitions that will represent the African continent have already been selected for Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Senegal.
