The Seedstars Lagos Competition served as the Nigerian leg of the global early-stage startups competition for emerging markets took place at the end of August, with 10 of the best startups vying to be the representative from Nigeria for the global final event next year.
Seedstars World, which describes itself as the world’s biggest startup competition in emerging markets, holds these events in over 65 countries before winners are selected to take part in a grand final.
The winner of the Seedstars Lagos Competition will now join other Seedstars country-winners at the final event in Switzerland during April next year, where it will deliver a pitch that could potentially earn the company up to $1 million in equity investments and prizes.

The company aims to make use of data in realtime and with verification that leverages on the power of human intelligence connected across over 70 million mobile phones to provide insightful results.

Nigeria’s recycling-focused social marketplace irecycle is set to play an important role within the green economy in the country. The startup has created a platform that allows Nigerians to sell their reusable and recyclable waste. On-demand dry-cleaning service Safi.ng is another of the growth-stage startups on this list, with a mobile application allowing for pickup in as little as 30 minutes throughout the week.
