Africa’s Biggest Media And Technology Expo Expects More Than 12K Attendees

Africa’s premier broadcast media and technology expo aims to introduce South Africans to the latest broadcast and audio-visual technology trends – these are the sentiments of Media Tech Africa Marketing Manager, Catri Dixon.

Dixon says Media Tech Africa has been running for the past nine years and it has grown immensely since its inception.

“With more than 140 exhibitors and 12 ,000 plus visitors expected this year, it is clear that South Africa is the entry point for international companies wanting to showcase and sell their products in the African continent.”

The technology found in the expo ranges from drone quad copters, home automation gadgets, fancy fountain graphics and extra ordinary lighting shows.

Dixon says drone copters have been attracting a lot of attention.

“One of our key features at the moment is our drone cage. There is a lot of talk regarding the logistics and legislation around drone technology.”

Many consumers are interested in drones, but there are strict regulations regarding the flying of these small aviation tools.

Director of Timeslice, a South African based production company, Jonathan O’Connell says to become a commercial drone pilot, one needs to go through a strict CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) certification process.

“The moment you earn any income from your drone you need to have a special license. It’s not only one license there are about ten different licenses. It took our company more than a year to obtain those licenses and cost us an exorbitant amount of money.”
