Manchester City Interested In Ivorian Striker Wilfried Zaha

English Premier League club Manchester City is interested in a potential transfer for Crystal Palace’s Ivorian striker Wilfried Zaha, with a view to signing him at the end of the current season.

Zaha has been in great form for the relegation strugglers throughout the campaign, threatening opposition defensive lines with his pace, power and finishing.

Manchester City have taken note of his abilities, and according to the Daily Mail, they have requested first refusal should the Eagles decide to sell their star striker.

Zaha was previously signed by rivals Manchester United in 2013, but he spent a difficult year and a half at Old Trafford where he was unable to settle and produce his best soccer for the club.

Since then he has matured, and this season his contribution to Crystal Palace has been immense, especially in recent times under Sam Allerdyce, with the club managing some excellent results that are seeing them fight a solid relegation battle.

Zaha scored a goal and made an assist as the Eagles claimed a surprising 2-1 away win over current Premier League leaders Chelsea. When he has not scored, his intelligent play up front has contributed in other ways, setting up his team-mates or keeping defenders under pressure.

This form has peaked the interest of fellow Premier League clubs, with Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all closely monitoring the situation, as Palace may still succumb to relegation at the end of the season, at which point they would likely sell Zaha.

In November last year Zaha made the decision to switch international allegiance from England to Cote D’Ivoire, submitting an application to FIFA in order to represent the Elephants on the international stage.

The 24-year-old winger was born in Abidjan but moved to the UK when he was only 4, growing up in the country and eventually representing the English national team.

He earned two caps for the side in 2013, but because both appearances as a substitute came in friendly matches and not competitive encounters, he was able to confirm a switch to his country of birth, and appeared for the Elephants at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since returning to Palace from the AFCON in Gabon, his performances have been excellent, and the Citizens look likely to make a move for him when the current campaign is over.
