The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon managed a 2-0 win over the Black Stars of Ghana in the second semi-final played at the Stade de Franceville on Thursday evening, securing their place in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final against Egypt.

Goals from Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Christian Bassogog made sure of victory over a more favoured Ghanaian outfit, with captain Benjamin Moukandjo leading his charges by example with a fine display in midfield.

An action packed game did not see any winners at half time, with the score still goalless going into the break, but the second half would produce a result for the Central African nation of Cameroon.

The Black Stars seemed to be the better side in the early stages of the second half, but it was Cameroon that would take the lead, with poor Ghanaian goalkeeping from a free kick allowing defender Ngadeu-Ngadjui to score for the Lions in the 72nd minute.

Asamoah Gyan was sent into the match late on by Avram Grant, with the Ghana coach hoping that he would restore parity, but despite a number of attempts, Cameroon keeper Ondoa and his defence did well to keep a clean sheet.

A late goal from Bassogog made sure of matters in the third minute of stoppage-time, with the Danish-based forward putting the cherry on top of a swift counter-attack with a well-taken finish.

Cameroon was not given much hope of progressing far in the tournament ahead of the 2017 AFCON kick-off, with many of their best players deciding not to play for the national team in favour of their European clubs.

That proved to be motivation for German coach Hugo Broos’ side, and they have now worked their way to the title match, which will take place on Sunday.

The opponents that await the Indomitable Lions are Egypt, after the Pharaohs defeated Burkina Faso on Wednesday to book their place in the ultimate match in African soccer.
