VIDEO: Exploring The Underwater Chinhoyi Caves In Zimbabwe

Go deep underwater with the Internations Chinhoyi Caves Expedition to explore the fascinating Chinhoyi caves in Zimbabwe. These caves are at an altitude of 1,200 meters (3,937 feet), about a 1.5 hour drive from Harare in the north of the country near the Zambia border.

The descent to the main cave with its pool of cobalt blue water is impressive. This pool is known as Sleeping Pool or Chirorodziva (Pool of the Fallen). Diving is possible year round, with temperatures always between 22-to-24 degrees Celsius (72 to 75 Fahrenheit).

This site is often visited by diving expeditions who do ultra-deep diving. Accommodation includes Caves Motel, a quiet private establishment, and a campsite run onsite by the Zimbabwe National Parks Authority.

Chinhoyi Caves are considered among the best dive sites in the world with fantastic visibility. Divers are required to dive with a Zimbabwe registered dive club. U.S. Navy Divers have reached 135 meters (442 feet) at the site. The actual depth is unknown.
