Algeria national team coach Milovan Rajevac has expressed his discontent following his team’s 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the opening group stage World Cup qualifier at home in Blida.

Bejamin Moukandjo equalised for the visiting Indomitable Lions after Algeria’s El Arbi Soudani opened the scoring for the Fennec Foxes on Sunday in a Group B encounter at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium.

The match would end in a draw, allowing both teams to take a point from the clash and sit tied for second place in the group after the opening round of fixtures.

The game was a high profile affair, as two seasoned World Cup campaigners went head to head in an effort to secure a place at the next showpiece event to be held in Russia during 2018.

Algeria coach Rajevac would no doubt have been expecting a home win from his North African side, who are currently ranked as the second best team on the continent according to the FIFA rankings for September.

Milovan Rajevac is not happy

Speaking to the media following the stalemate, the former Ghana national team boss revealed that he was not pleased by the end result against the Indomitable Lions.

“We played to win – all the players did their best to achieve the target,” Rajevac said at a press conference, according to AfricanFootball.

“We are upset with this result as we failed to win over Cameroon in the beginning of the qualifiers. If we replayed the game again I would make some changes in the starting lineup,” the Serbian coach admitted.

“I have to watch the game again to understand the reason for our dip in form after leading,” he added.

Turning his focus to future games in the World Cup qualifying campaign, he mentioned that his team’s next fixture away to Nigeria will be tough.

“We will try to call up the applicable squad for the Nigeria game, who are leading the group. We will face a difficult opponent in Nigeria. We will make use of Cameroon’s draw and work not to repeat our mistakes in the coming games,” the coach added, according to DailyPost.

Rajevac has been in charge of the Algerian national team since June this year, and with only a few months at the Fennec Foxes, he will need to move fast and work hard to prepare the side for the challenge that awaits in Gabon this coming January at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
