Kwadwo Asamoah Out For Six Weeks With Meniscus Rupture

In a piece of news that is becoming all too similar to the Ghanaian midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoah has ruptured his meniscus cartilage in his knee, forcing him to sit on the sidelines at Italian club Juventus for the next six weeks.

The combative midfielder has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, spending a great deal of time recovering from a number of serious injury blows.

The latest serious knee injury was suffered during Juventus’ 1-0 victory against Palermo in Serie A action this past Saturday. The Ghana international’s second-half appearance ended in agony as he will now require surgery and around 45 days of recovery.

The injury will also see him miss the Ghana national team’s first two 2018 World Cup qualifying group stage matches.

The Black Stars are set to face Uganda in October and Egypt in November in their quest to secure qualification for the 2018 showpiece competition in Russia, and they will have to do so without the experienced midfield presence of Asamoah.

Kwadwo Asamoah out for 45 days

A statement released by the Italian champions revealed the extent of the injury, as well as the expected recovery time.

“The extent of the injuries sustained by Daniele Rugani and Kwadwo Asamoah were clarified following medical examinations today,” a Juve statement on the club’s website explained.

“The tests revealed that Asamoah has ruptured the meniscus cartilage, while Rugani has strained the lateral collateral ligament, both in the right knee. The former is expected to undergo surgery with both players anticipated to return within around 45 days.”

The 27-year-old will return in mid-November, at a time when the continued assault on the Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League titles will no doubt be weighing heavily on Juventus.

The former Udinese midfielder will hope to overcome his injuries in time to feature for the Black Stars of Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition, which will be held in Gabon during the months of January and February.
