Cricket SA Announces New Standard Bank Sponsorship

Cricket South Africa has announced details concerning a new Standard Bank sponsorship deal, which will see the financial institution supporting the Proteas in three formats of the sport.

Cricket is incredibly popular in South Africa, and a sponsorship of the national teams is valuable for the bank, which operates throughout the African continent.

CSA’s new four-year sponsorship agreement with the company will see Standard Bank’s logo printed on the national team’s shirts in all three formats of the modern game.

“This is an historic sponsorship that sees Standard Bank take charge of all three teams,” CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat explained, according to IOL.

The Standard Bank sponsorship is worth around $19 million over the four-year period, and will be a return to sponsorship of the Proteas for the bank, who was last involved in the South African national cricket team five years ago.

As far as the current national team sponsors supporting cricket in the country, Momentum, Blue Label Telecom, Sunfoil and SA Breweries will all be retained as sponsors of the Proteas.

Momentum will keep their valuable status as event sponsors for the one-day series, and Sunfoil will also continue as event sponsors for Test series.

Standard Bank Sponsorship of Soccer

The South African bank has been involved in soccer sponsorship for many year, with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament seeing Standard Bank as the official financial services provider for some time, with the bank having signed an eight-year partnership deal with CAF.

Standard Bank was the only African corporate sponsor for the 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
