EPL Champions Leicester City Interested In Islam Slimani

Fresh from their victorious English Premier League season, Leicester City are already looking to the transfer market to strengthen their squad ahead of next season’s commitments and defence of the title, with Sporting Lisbon’s Algerian striker Islam Slimani on their radar.

The attacker has enjoyed a fantastic season in the Portuguese top flight, scoring at will and providing his side with a reliable target-man with proven pedigree.

A report in Portuguese sports publication A Bola, suggests that Leicester are willing to pay the €30 million stipulated in Slimani’s contract as his release clause, in order to secure the services of the prolific attacker.

The 27-year-old Algeria international scored 26 goals in 32 Portuguese Primeira Liga appearances in the recently concluded campaign.

His goal scoring antics have seen him finish the season as the striker with the 14th highest goals tally in Europe, behind the illustrious names of Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

English champions Leicester have qualified for the UEFA Champions League next season, and as such they will need to have some serious depth in their squad to be competitive in domestic and European action.

The addition of a striker such as Slimani will no doubt give Claudio Ranieri’s team further attacking power, and the potential partnership between the Sporting player and his compatriot Riyad Mahrez holds great promise.
