Open Data Platform Increases Investor Access To Africa Info

African Development Bank’s single-platform collection, analysis and sharing of information on Africa now gives global business leaders and investors access to data on all 54 countries in the continent, according to a report at VenturesAfrica.

Users will be able to extract data, create and share customized reports, and visualize data across themes, sectors and countries through tables, charts, and maps, according to the Open Data Platform website.

A wide range of development data on African countries is consolidated from multiple international and national official sources, the website says. The platform will also help countries with international development partners.

“The Open Data Platform is a direct response to a number of important global and regional initiatives to scale up the availability of quality data on Africa and so foster evidence-based decision-making, public accountability, and good governance,” the website says. “This initiative offers a unique opportunity for policymakers, analysts, researchers, business leaders and investors around the world to gain access to reliable and timely data on Africa. Users can visualize time-series development indicators, perform comprehensive analysis at country and regional levels, utilize presentation-ready graphics or create their own visuals, blog, share their views and work with others, thereby creating an informed community of users.

The final phase of the project included Benin, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Kenya, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, and Togo.

International development agencies, including International Monetary Fund, will now upload their statistics on African countries onto the bank’s Open Data Platform and regularly update it for Africa’s use, according to VenturesAfrica.

In addition, the IMF and the bank agreed to provide joint technical assistance to African countries to help in their data submission and reporting.

The platform is intended to function as a central hub for data-sharing with international development partners.
