According to BBC, South Africa has been hit by the worst drought in 30 years and it is now threatening to scorch away dreams of small-scale farmers and threatens to cut short dreams of many black farmers who benefited from a post apartheid program to encourage them.

The drought has caused a water crisis in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, which has threatened to cripple the food industry, with prices expected to rise in coming weeks.

The drought has not spared traditional cattle farmers, who are finding it harder to feed their herds on thinning grazing pasture.

One small-scale farmer told BBC he had “no choice but to sell some of [his] cattle before they die”.
