The top 10 ranked African national teams for the month have been revealed this week, with world football’s governing body releasing the FIFA ranking for April.

African football has experienced a shift in perceptions during the last decade, with many pundits from around globe agreeing that the quality of the game on the continent has grown immensely.

An indication of which national teams are the best on the continent is available in the form of the FIFA Ranking, which is updated monthly and ranks members of world football’s governing body, including the associations linked to the Confederation of African Football.

The FIFA monthly ranking was released for the month of April, and here we take a closer look at how the African teams were ranked in relation to each other and the rest of the world.

9) Cote D’Ivoire – 48

After a 13-place demotion in February thanks to their failure to progress from the group stages at the AFCON, Cote D’Ivoire fell a further place in April, putting them in 48th place overall and a disappointing ninth in Africa.

10) Morocco – 53

Tenth place seems to suit Morocco, who have assumed the role of number 10 for the last few months. They fell four places in April, and with Algeria only one position above, they are under pressure to relinquish their top 10 place.
