The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have publicly committed to the need for the national team to qualify as one of the African representatives taking part in the 2018 World Cup set to be hosted in Russia.

This comes as the Super Eagles’ qualifying draw was revealed at an event which took place over the weekend in Russia. Nigeria’s campaign will begin with the necessary encounters against either Djibouti or Swaziland in November’s second round of qualifying, depending on which of the two emerge from their first round tie.

If the Super Eagles progress from their second round match up, the third round will see them put into one of five groups of four teams each. The five group winners will then qualify to take part in the 2018 World Cup.

According to the NFF, they are confident that the Super Eagles will be among Africa’s five representatives when the time comes.

NFF executive committee member, Barrister Chris Green commented on the need for the Nigerian national team to be at the tournament, telling SuperSport, “A World Cup without Nigeria is not complete and as a federation, we will do everything it takes to see that the Super Eagles qualify for the tournament.”

“We will continue to give the necessary support to (Sunday) Oliseh to enable him to succeed. The Super Eagles owe Nigerians the obligation of playing well, winning matches and getting to play at every edition of the World Cup,” Green added.

“We want to ensure that Nigeria becomes a great force in international football again,” he concluded.
