Cameroon Bans Burqas In Far North Region After Attacks

From NewYorkTimes.

Cameroon’s northern region has barred women from wearing burqas and face-covering veils after bombs carried by women in burqas killed at least 14 people in a northern town on Sunday, a government official said Wednesday.

The region has also barred Muslims from meeting in large groups without permission, said the official, Midjiyawa Bakari, governor of Cameroon’s Far North Region.

The Islamist extremist group Boko Haram has been carrying out attacks across Nigeria’s borders. Troops from Cameroon and Chad are fighting the group on Cameroon’s border with Nigeria.

Imam Hamaounde Abba of Mora in the Far North Region criticized the ban, saying that for those who wear the veil it was not a choice.
